A Heartfelt Thank You to Simon Hood, Our Hero
Some volunteers resign once. True visionaries do it twice.
WombleWorld+ members received this first.
Because nothing says “democratic equality” quite like a clearly defined two-tier system for accessing important governance content.
Before we begin, our usual note:
Everything below is based strictly on Simon’s manifestos, public statements, and the published DTB minutes. If it sounds exaggerated, that’s only because we’re celebrating him with the enthusiasm his record inspires.
A Tribute to True Bravery
We would like to extend our warmest, deepest, utterly overflowing gratitude to
Simon Hood, whose time on the Dons Trust Board will forever be remembered for its conceptual elegance.
Some people contribute through words.
Some contribute through actions.
Simon contributed through potential.
And potential, as we all know, is limitless.
His was a performance of restraint so remarkable that historians may one day declare it a groundbreaking experiment in minimalist governance.
Thank You for Standing. And Standing Down. And Standing. And Standing Down Again
Very few have demonstrated such commitment to the democratic process.
Simon didn’t just stand.
He didn’t just step aside.
He didn’t just stand again.
He didn’t just step aside again.
He showed us that elections are not singular events.
They are an ongoing subscription service.
And for that, Simon, we salute you.
Thank You for Saying So Little, So Powerfully
Some say they “speak truth to power”.
Simon spoke silence to minutes, and honestly?
The minutes needed the rest.
Each meeting, he delivered contributions so subtle they did not burden the secretary with excessive note-taking.
This is rare discipline.
This is leadership through absence.
Thank You for Your Conflict of Interest
Most people spend years looking for their next opportunity.
Simon managed to find his so swiftly that he barely had time to warm his new DTB seat.
That’s talent.
That’s efficiency.
That’s a man who understands time is precious.
And who are we to stand between a volunteer and his dream of maybe buying another club? The DTB may never recover from this raw act of ambition.
Thank You for Leaving the Board in Perfect Equilibrium
Some board members leave a legacy.
Simon left something even better: a board completely untouched, unaltered, and unbothered.
It is rare for a volunteer to depart with such an immaculate carbon footprint.
The Trust’s operations continue undisturbed.
The minutes remain symmetrical.
The projects remain unbent.
This is sustainability in its purest form.
Closing Thoughts
So here’s to you, Simon.
Thank you for everything you nearly did, everything you briefly considered doing, and everything you decided not to do.
The DTB will now fill the casual vacancy, but your conceptual contribution will live on in whispered tones:
“Remember the era of total stability? That was Simon.”
WombleWorld
Ashley Bayes has lit a candle in Simon’s honour not because of spiritual reasons, but because he needed an excuse to light another candle.
