There are many ways to achieve immortality at AFC Wimbledon.
You can win at Wembley. Score a last minute wonder goal. Play for the club on three separate occasions across your career. Or even have a song about you that bears almost no relationship to either your name or the original lyrics.
There is, however, another route.
Score against Franchise
We have decided that any AFC Wimbledon player who has put the ball into the Franchise net deserves formal recognition. The eventual result is irrelevant. A goal is a goal. A slaying is a slaying.
These men are Franchise Slayers
Their names should be remembered. Their contribution should be recorded. Future generations should know what they did.
So, in the interests of historical preservation, and because apparently nobody else has established a proper honours system for this, WombleWorld presents the definitive roll of AFC Wimbledon Franchise Slayers. There are currently 18 slayers on the list, and hopefully a few more after Thursday.
The list also lives at slayers.wombleworld.co.uk where it shall be kept live and updated.
Rewards
There is of course the question of reward in return for being a Franchise Slayer. We spoke to Craig Cope about available budget for medals, statues and an annual parade with a massive flag. He informed us that due to ongoing Plough Lane Bond issues, we would have to self fund.
So we have decided: Every Slayer on this list is entitled to lifetime WombleWorld+ membership.
However verification is required. Verification means telling us you scored it. If you appear on the list above and are reading this, firstly why, and secondly - get in touch to claim your reward.
Closing Thoughts
There they are.
Every AFC Wimbledon player to have scored against Franchise. Different eras. Different competitions. Different levels of significance. All united by one important contribution to society.
Once you have scored against Franchise, you cannot unscore against Franchise.
You are a Franchise Slayer. And WombleWorld salutes you.
WombleWorld
We have determined that penalty shootout goals do not count as a slaying. This only impacts Anthony Hartigan. Somehow this is not surprising.
We have been distributing WombleWorld Beermats around the ground on match days. If you see one snap an image and tag us for a reward of your own.
