The timeline for the Dons Trust Board elections has finally been announced. The first candidate to declare is a name some readers may recognise.
Wesley Wombleton, founder of WombleWorld, is standing for election.
Further details of his campaign including a full manifesto will be released very soon.
This places us in a difficult position. WombleWorld does not endorse candidates. We cover the Trust, its Board, and its elections from a position of neutrality. We are not in the business of telling members how to vote (except for part where we make our recommendations, obviously).
We are however, in the business of WombleWorld. And WombleWorld was founded by Wesley Wombleton. So while we will not be endorsing his candidacy, we will be covering it more closely than is strictly appropriate.
Asked to set out his case, Wesley said:
“I am not standing for myself. I am standing for the members. I’m standing because I believe the Trust can do better. And doing better starts with being better.
That is what I offer.”
What this shows is a man confident in his ability to make a difference. Over-confident? We will leave that for the members to decide, at the appropriate point in the process. What we can say is that the confidence carries through into his manifesto pledges.
He has not held office before. He regards this as a strength.
Those wishing to join Wesley’s campaign group are invited to get in touch, via email or in the comments.
The election coverage, including the manifesto reviews, and the exit poll, will follow in the usual way, and will be conducted without fear, favour, or any reference to the above.
WombleWorld
Wesley Wombleton has asked to use the Dons Trust kiosk as a campaign headquarters on non-match days. The request is being considered by a working group.
